"50th Anniversary of Tennessee's Civil Rights Sit-Ins"

Fifty years ago, a handful of Tennessee students from Fisk University, Tennessee A & I (which later became Tennessee State University) and American Baptist Theological Seminary, along with religious leaders Kelly Miller Smith and James Lawson, began a sit-in campaign targeting downtown Nashville lunch counters. We Shall Not Be Moved: The 50th Anniversary of the Tennessee's Civil Rights Sit-Ins is the current exhibition at the Tennessee State Museum that commemorates this pivotal chapter in the non-violent movement against segregation which became a model for the rest of Tennessee and the Southeast.  It runs through May 16, 2010.

Graham Perry, the Curator of Social History, will be presenting highlights from this exhibition with an introduction by Mary Unobsky, the museum's Director of Marketing & Development.

In service to our members and our community since 1913!

The Rotary Club of Nashville is the oldest and most influential civic club in Nashville.  Founded in 1913, our club was the 94th Rotary Club established by Rotary International and is currently the 20th largest of the 32,000 clubs worldwide.

Our membership includes over 470 preeminent business and civic leaders in the greater Nashville community including two members of Congress.  Our members are people who look beyond themselves to their community, nation and the world. They seek the truth, let fairness govern their relationships, endeavor to build goodwill and better friendships, and strive to benefit all in every interpersonal relationship.  In short, Rotary members put Service Above Self.
