ROTARY MEETING: March 8, 2010
at the Wildhorse Saloon, 120 Second Avenue North
Christopher Ward
Deputy Vice President
International Alliance Development
Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturers Association
"Partnering To Promote Global Health"
In partnership with The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International, The Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) has been working toward the eradication of Polio in the world. With 350,000 cases of Wild Polio Virus in 125 countries in 1988, breakthrough innovations as well as Rotary's dedicated efforts have drastically reduced the present number of cases. Where are we today? Chris Ward has been involved with this Rotary program and will give us that information.
PhRMA partner companies have a long history of working to fight disease and improve health in many developing countries of the world. This includes the discovery of new medicines, training health care workers, construction of research and training facilities, and more.
From 1985 to 1990 Chris Ward served as a lawmaker in the province of Ontario, Canada. In 1985 he was Parliamentary Assistant to Ontario's Minister of Health. In 1987 he was appointed Minister of Education and in 1990 he was Government House Leader. Prior to joining PhRMA, Chris was President of Ward Health Strategies, a health policy consultancy practice in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and in Washington, DC.
